The company

The ownership of buildings and installations is connected to "Llotja Agropecuària Mercolleida, S.A.", founded May 25 1971. The foundation of Mercolleida was done with support of many institutions in the region: Chamber of Commerce, Agricultural Chambers, Union of Cooperatives, financial and sectoral organizations, and more than a hundred private enterprises, cooperatives and associates in and around the agricultural sector, which were also incorporated in the following expansion of capital.

In 1992 there was a change in the political structure of the Spanish agriculture after which the articles of the association were slightly modified. The main objectives of partnership were formulated as follows:

1. Promotion, construction, administration and exploitation of the producer market(Mercado en Origen).
2. Exploitation of the buildings, offices, warehouses and shopping arcades in any form.
3. Offering of commercial, technical, legal and bookkeeping advice to professionals in the sectors of livestock and administration.

In the three main areas, services, installations and auction, the latter logically is the main activity. Mercolleida is a recognized representative market in Spain and Europe of the sectors of pigs, sheep, cattle, cereals, feed, forages and fruits.

More than a thousand companies and private enterprises are enlisted as accredited users of Mercolleida. The subscribtions of those members are the main source of income.

Moreover, Mercolleida offers a wide range of services and facilities to members and other organizations. Fully equipped offices and conference rooms are available.

The 'Llotja Agropecuària Mercolleida, SA' has a social capital of 131.67 million pesetas divided over 13,167 shares of 10,000 pesetas each. The association participates actively in the sectors that negotiate in the auction. It also has shares in a number of fruit industries.
