Mercolleida in short

Mercolleida is the most important producer-market for the pigsector in Spain, and one of the most important for cattle, sheep, sweet fruits, cereals and forage.

The company. "Llotja Agropecuària Mercolleida, S.A.", founded May 25 1971 is owner of the buildings and installations of the Mercolleida.

The auction. Mercolleida was entered by the ministry of agriculture in the official register of producer markets, in 1972. Since 1988 it is recognized as a representative market for the EU.

The rules/regulations

The current regulations for the market were approved by the board of administration of "Llotja Agropecuària Mercolleida, S.A" on June 20, 1995. Legal confirmation was established by decree 259/1998 of the state of Catalonia.

Mercolleida aims to facilitate and improve the conditions in which transactions are undertaken between the farming producers and the retailers or industries, to achieve greater transparency in the market, providing information on prices and the market trends and forecasts.
